Recent statistics reveal concerning shifts in migration patterns, and since this data reflects 2023, it predates the peak of the property insurance crisis, the recent challenges posed by new homeowner association rules, the aftermath of two major hurricanes and the rising cost of housing in our state.

In 2023, the Census reports, Florida’s net migration fell by half from the previous year. While in 2022 Florida netted almost 250,000 new Floridians from other states, the highest total since 2005, that number fell to just over 126,000 in 2023.

More concerning, the number of people leaving the state (510,925) was the highest since the Great Recession in 2008. Policymakers in Tallahassee must take immediate action to address these critical economic concerns or risk jeopardizing the
