Lead singer of The Village People bows down to Trump, threatens to sue anyone labeling “Y.M.C.A.” a gay anthem
Apparently, The Village People founder Victor Willis would rather be affiliated with MAGA than the LGBTQ+ community, despite being responsible for some of the biggest gay anthems in disco history.
The 73-year-old singer-songwriter posted a long statement on Facebook Monday affirming Trump’s use of “Y.M.C.A.” The 78-year-old president-elect has played the 1970s hit at his events for years, previously to Willis’ chagrin.
At the end of Trump’s last term in office, the Village People decried his “abusive” use of the disco hit and called him a “bully.” But now, Willis is basking in the glow of Trump’s bronzer, while threatening legal action against any publication that infers the song is any sort of gay anthem.
Politics, but make it gay!
