John Waters just named ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ one of the… best movies of 2024???

Cult, gay movie director John Waters has come out… as a fan of Joker: Folie à Deux.

The eagerly-anticipated Joker sequel from director Todd Phillips debuted October 4 in the US. After negative press reviews following its premiere at the Venice Film Festival a month earlier, the movie tanked. It took around $58 million in the US and $208 worldwide–far short of the $1 billion taken by its predecessor.

However, cinephile Waters has placed it at number six in his annual round-up of the year’s best movies. Writing for Vulture, Waters said, “Finally, a love story I can relate to. So insane, so well thought out, so well directed, so much smoking!”
