It’s Kiss a Ginger Day, and gay redheads are celebrating all over social media
Those of us boring old black, brown, blond hair might not realize that redheads are the subject of multiple holidays per year. November 5 is National Love Your Red Hair Day, as we’ve previously covered, but January 12 is Kiss a Ginger Day.
Comedian and activist Derek Forgie launched Kiss a Ginger Day on Facebook in 2009 as a response to anti-redhead discrimination and bullying.
“When you feel like you’ve been ridiculed about something you have no choice over, you feel guilty about something that you really didn’t do wrong, which is a weird thing to do to people,” he said in a YouTube video about the holiday.
Your day is about to get a little hotter
