Bel Ami celebrates more than 30 years of ‘the forbidden fruit’
Before we grinded, swiped, sniffed, and scruffied our way toward satisfaction—we’re talking pre-Craig’s List personals and AOL chat rooms—there was Bel Ami. Now celebrating more than 30 years of erotica, the trademark that originated twunk before it was a thing has gone retro, publishing a book that pays tribute to some of its legendary models and performers.
George Duroy (a Slovakian filmmaker’s pseudonym inspired by the protagonist in Guy de Maupassant’s novel Bel-Ami) conceived of the brand in 1993 when most angsty gays were stuck with a copy of International Male under the covers.
Self-defined as the “masculine ideal of inhibited youth and virility,” Bel Ami has produced thousands of videos over the years. Well-worn
