Staunch trans rights supporter Lorraine Kelly has once again voiced her support for the community, saying: “It’s my duty to stand up.” 

Speaking to the Metro about the 80s HIV/Aids crisis, when the LGBTQ+ community was demonised, the Scottish TV presenter, who in earlier this month called for people to be more “tolerant” of the trans community, said: “I felt it was my duty to stand up and say, ‘No, this isn’t right’.” 

She went on to say that she uses her fame to allow transgender people to share their stories. 

“I don’t like when trans people have to try [to] justify their experience, because no one else has to. It’s really about showing the person behind the label, we’re all far more complex than labels.
