Michelangelo’s “David” took the sculptor three years to complete—a solid amount of time to have one’s hands on a hard body. Famed celebrity photographer Blake Little has also had his fair share of practice, particularly during Los Angeles’ transformation in the early 80s. 

Little’s new photo book, Construction Nudes, 1981-1985, juxtaposes a city on the verge of rebirth as it prepared for the 1984 Summer Olympics while its queer community faced the looming AIDS crisis. The monograph offers a captivating look through Little’s lens as the photographer experimented with 35mm, 120mm, and 4×5 analog camera formats and his early days in the City of Angels.
