Chappell Roan on being an ally to the trans community: “I think that it’s just a duty”

I think it comes out of, actually, survival, more so than bravery. I think that being brave is just being able to put out your own music. But doing what I’m doing? It’s life or death almost. To break the mold.

Being brave is getting out on stage in front of 110,000 people. But me standing up for myself on a red carpet, or fighting for trans rights … is life or death. But I don’t know if it’s bravery. I think that it’s just a duty.

I feel a responsibility to show up for who I am. I don’t feel responsible for them. I just feel responsible to do my best as a human.
