Dr. Jon Paul Higgins’ ‘Black. Fat. Femme’ celebrates Black queerness, body positivity, and nonbinary voices

For writer and educator Dr. Jonathan “Jon Paul” Higgins, each day is a new opportunity to honor all that makes us special in this world. And in a recent social media post, they stressed the importance of this truth, sharing a personal promise they made to never shrink themselves for the comfort of others.

“You don’t like the fact that I am a multifaceted person who enjoys helping my people at the crux of digital media and advocacy/justice? Tough,” Dr. Higgins wrote in the social media post. “I’ve worked to hard to get here. You can celebrate me and my work or kick rocks with open toe shoes.”

This message of self-confidence is at the foundation of Dr. Higgins’ new book, Black. Fat.
