Exes as best friends, lying to the barber, boozy brunch: Gays on aspects of their lives that straights won’t ever understand

When we asked Queerty readers to describe one aspect of their gay lives that straight people will never understand, many responses spoke to the frightening and regressive political moment.

With D*nald Tr*mp back in the White House, federal LGBTQ+ protections are vanishing, especially in regards to transgender people. With attempted bans on medical services, passport gender markers, military service and sports participation, it’s fair to say the current administration is trying to legislate trans people out of public life.

As queer people, we know all about the slippery slope. For the first time in years, there’s been a slight drop in U.S. support for LGBTQ+ rights, including gay marriage.
