Hegseth Floats “Department Of War” Name Change
First, some history about the name:
In 1789, the Department of War was established to oversee all military affairs, including naval affairs, with the Secretary of War as its head. The National Security Act of 1947 established the Department of the Air Force and merged it with the War Department and the Navy Department to create the National Military Establishment. In 1949, the National Military Establishment was renamed the Department of Defense, with the Secretary of Defense becoming the single administrator, and the secretaries of the Army, Navy, and Air Force becoming subordinate.
Wikipedia has a more lengthy history.
Bloodthirsty Hegseth’s poll is still active and has 157,000 votes at this writing. So far, Department of War is winning, but not by a lot.
