Laws targeting LGBTQ+ people in red states have uprooted tens of thousands to bluer and more tolerant pastures. One of those states is Tennessee, which has passed a historic wave of legislation in recent years restricting the rights of queer people.

Earlier this week, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker posted a letter he received from a gay man and new resident, who moved to the Land of Lincoln from the Volunteer State at the start of the new year.

The man says he and his husband did not take their decision lightly. But they felt like they had to leave Tennessee to pursue the “fundamental need for safety, dignity and the ability to live our lives without fear.”

Politics, but make it gay!
