JFK had a gay best friend who had his own bedroom at the White House
When stories about John F. Kennedy’s personal life are told, they often focus on his ravenous womanizing and promiscuity. The centerpiece of Camelot allegedly courted multiple women in addition to his wife, Jackie Onassis, including Marilyn Monroe.
But there was one person always around Kennedy with whom the magnetic president carried on a deep male friendship. Kennedy met Lem Billings when they were classmates at Choate, an elite prep school in bucolic Connecticut.
The pair quickly became inseparable, traveling Europe together as graduates and forming an unbreakable bond. In the subsequent years, Billings worked on JFK’s first congressional campaign, was an usher at his wedding; and eventually, worked on his 1960 presidential run.
