Josh Hawley just got schooled by the NCAA president for his dramatic little hissy fit over trans athletes
One of the biggest cultural debates in the U.S. revolves around a microscopic percentage of the population: trans women who play women’s sports. The fervor surrounding the topic could be better applied to almost any other issue: health care, child care, economic prosperity, fixing roads and bridges.
But yet, fear-mongering over transgender athletes rules the day.
The absurdity of the brouhaha was on full display Tuesday inside the Senate Chamber, when NCAA president Charlie Baker was being questioned in front of the Judiciary Committee. While the hearing was supposed to be about legalized sports betting–a pernicious and lightly regulated industry that now exceeds $10 billion in annual revenue–two GOP grandstanders hijacked the affair and turned the topic towards trans in sports.
