I don’t even know why I thought of the lyric in the moment. But of course my history is I was brought up as a Catholic. I went to a Catholic school called St. Cuthbert’s.
We were told that sex was a sin apart from within marriage for the purpose of procreation. That’s pretty hardcore. Otherwise, to coin a phrase, it’s a sin. And for some reason I remembered this, maybe because it was such a narrow definition, even sort of denied sexual pleasure within marriage, never mind without it.
