Former President Jimmy Carter died yesterday at the age of 100. He’d spent the last 19 months of his life in hospice care and was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalynn, who passed in November 2023.
He is the first Democratic ex-president to die since Lyndon Baines Johnson passed away at the age of 64 in 1973.
Although Carter only served one term as President (1976-1980), his reputation has grown in stature since he left office. He continued his work as an advocate for peace, the environment and human rights, for which he was recognized with a Nobel Peace Prize.
