In its quest to adhere to the removal of all things related to diversity, equity and inclusion, the Defense Department is reportedly now erasing thousands of photos from its archive pages and social media. New Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has set a deadline of next Wednesday for the deletions.
According to the Associated Press, some 26,000 images face potential deletion.
Many of these images mark historic firsts in the US military, such as the Tuskegee Airmen. These, the nation’s first Black military pilots, served in a segregated WWII unit known as the Red Tails. Others deletions include images of women, along with events to mark occasions such as Black History Month.
