State Rep. Venton Jones celebrates Black queer love with proposal to his partner at Texas state capitol

A declaration of Black queer love radiated from the Texas State Capitol in Austin last week as Democratic State Representative Venton Jones dropped to one knee to propose to his partner Gregory Scott Jr.
The touching moment came just moments after Jones—the first Black openly queer men elected to the Texas state legislature—was sworn into office for House District 100 in Dallas. Jones is serving his second term in the State House.
