A State Representative in Texas ensured the opening of the 89th legislative session in Austin yesterday was one to remember.
Venton Jones, the first Black gay man to serve in the Texas House, got down on one knee and proposed to his partner.
Jones, a Democrat, was elected to the House in 2022. He took the seat previously occupied by Jasmine Crockett after she departed for Congress. He’s now the Democratic Caucus Whip in the GOP-controlled House and Vice-Chair of the Texas LGBTQ Caucus.
