The bombshell we’ve been waiting for: ‘Smash’ finally arrives on Broadway

Theater queens were aghast when our favorite meta Broadway-inspired TV series was cancelled after two showtune-packed seasons. Were you team Karen or Ivy (IYKYK)? From a sneak peek at the first trailer, “Don’t Forget Me,” and production photos, the fictional casting conflict looks pretty straightforward. But don’t worry, there’s plenty of drama queens behind the scenes.

LGBTQ+ artists abound on the creative team, from real-life couple Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (music and lyrics), to book writers Rick Elice and Bob Martin. Say gay! The cast features one of our favorite character actors, Brooks Ashmanskas, as Nigel—the show-within-a-show’s director (originally named Derek). We’re waiting with bated breath and hope he’s as sharp-toothed and warm-hearted
