In the grand tradition of the romantic-comedy, the assumption is that two people will meet and—despite being hopelessly mismatched—eventually fall in love, ending with them in monogamous wedded bliss… or at least winding up in bed together.

But do all meet-cutes need to end in “happily ever after”? Does a rom-com necessarily have to be about romantic love? Can two attractive dudes actually spark a connection without immediately sleeping with each other?

These are all questions posited by the upcoming British indie A Night Like This (premiering this weekend at the BFI Flare festival), which has been described as a “platonic rom-com.”

How about we take this to the next level?
