For his feature film debut, Young Hearts, Belgian director Anthony Schatteman set out to make the movie he wishes he had seen when he was younger.
But, given the increasing focus on LGBTQ+ youth in the global political sphere, a patient, compassionate, tender film like Young Hearts feels like the kind of movie we could all use right now, no matter our age.
Set in a small Belgian village—the exact one where Schatteman grew up—the film introduces us to 14-year-old Elias (Lou Goossens), whose life is turned upside down with the arrival of a new neighbor, Alexander (Marius De Saeger).
How about we take this to the next level?
