Zachary Noah Piser on being a calendar model, stage mom Idina Menzel & his infamous ‘Wicked’ stumble

Zachary Noah Piser has struck gold. Or some might say struck gold twice. Not only is he originating a role in the brand new musical Redwood, but he’s also appearing opposite original Elphaba Idina Menzel.

Now playing at Broadway’s Nederlander Theatre, where Menzel originated the role of Maureen in Rent nearly 30 years ago, Redwood follows the emotional journey of queer mom Jesse (Menzel), who heads to Redwood National and State Parks after an unthinkable tragedy. As her son Spencer, Piser appears intermittently throughout the story, culminating in a powerful ballad near the musical’s final moment that will send shivers down your spine.
